Henry Nowak's wakeup call for Britain

Contemporary Britain is an exercise in cacophony and chaos: a place now so unmoored from reality that it is entirely possible to imagine that we are being governed and controlled by forces that seek the demoralisation and destruction of the people in whose name it treasonously pretends to govern.

The recent murder of eighteen-year-old University student Henry Nowak, repeatedly stabbed in Southampton last December by Vickrum Digwa, a 23-year-old Sikh man, who has recently been sentenced to a minimum term of 21 years in prison, so perfectly and horribly exemplifies the inverted quality of things that it is hard to countenance. We must not forget his death and what it stands for.

Murdered for nothing by a man permitted to carry a dagger for reasons of religious exemption, Nowak died, though he may have survived had he received timely medical attention, as the police arrested him on the basis of a false accusation of “racism” from his killer. As Nowak bled out, his wounds exacerbated and opened by being handcuffed, the police ignored his desperate cries that he had been stabbed by responding, “I don’t think you have, mate”. How much horror is contained in this single, sardonic line. A still image of Nowak’s hand, pale and exsanguinated, cuffed, on the floor, has circulated widely: an image of absolute and total betrayal of a people, and of Henry and his family.

Digwa’s family colluded with the murderer to hide the murder weapon, pretend that Nowak was the aggressor, and even shouted “racism” at Nowak’s family in court, in a perfect and grotesque projection of the very accusation that had led to Henry’s deadly injuries being ignored on the basis of a lie. Nowak’s father even had to fight the police to prevent them from releasing a statement claiming that the incident had been “racially aggravated”, even though there was no evidence that it was, as the judge in the trial made clear. The whole timeline of the event has been carefully pieced together by Millennial Woes, which in itself is indicative of the fact that citizens are compelled to seek out the truth, because the very people who are supposed to uphold the law will only lie repeatedly. Trust in institutions is over: a sense of deep decay hangs over the whole edifice.

The British government’s extremely belated response to the justified rage that followed news of the case has, predictably, largely involved a call for people to avoid “stoking division”. The authorities cannot, of course, directly address the multiple elephants in the room, so they punish people for noticing them instead. This is a by-now familiar pattern in a country which sees 12,000 people a year arrested for social media posts, where “offensive” words count for more than violent behaviour, and whose government truly and actively hates and fears the people.

The government and its various arms can only traduce and smear, because everything about this rotten regime is wrong, and the only thing they can do, rather than admit it, is to double down. A world in which a false accusation of racism will see you arrested and your death inevitable because it carries more weight than severe violence against you. A police force so brainwashed by DEI training that they are programmed to punish bad words, real or imagined, more severely than physical crime. That a cry of “racism,” subjectively felt, or made up, can result in arrest, let alone prejudicial treatment, must cease: discrimination and hate speech legislation has become nothing but a cudgel to punish legitimate dissent, or to wage petty war against fellow citizens.

Henry Nowak was violently attacked, and the police hoped they could cover up and lie about it so that the truth would not emerge. The police were primed to believe Digwa’s claim of offence over Nowak’s protestations that he was dying; Digwa and his family calculated that an accusation of racism would see the state take their side; the government hoped that by attacking the upset, they could redistribute and invert blame. All of those would only be possible in a world in which the accusation of racism carries more weight than the truth, a world in which pretending that things are other than they are is now the dominant mode of imposing power.
